I am a bit confused: is this answer out-of-universe or in-universe? Or outside the comic altogether?

It's kind of both. All the information within the page is related to the comic and magic in general.

Also, what resource would you recommend to anyone curious to research about this kind of topic?

Good question. Since Jewish magic is religiously based, first you need to read the Torah (Old Testament), then eventually the Talmud. From there, it's easier to learn about Kabbalah and other esoteric practices.
Since a lot of people don't have a good understanding of this stuff, I'll be explaining it a bit in the comic in chapter 5 and onward.

Edit: However, if you want to learn about other magic traditions and practices, you really need to first learn about the culture and it's influences.

Wait, why would you mix guns into the occult? I get drugs and sex, people will make lots of excuses to have either, but how could you mix guns into it?

By guns, I was referring to drug cartels, like many of the ones in Mexico and Latin America. A lot of them practice Palo Mayombe, which is derived from Congo beliefs. It's similar to voodoo in some ways, but Palo Mayombe is extremely dangerous compared to Haitian or New Orleans voodoo. Palo results in a lot of really terrible things, I can't even begin to describe some of the atrocities committed in the name of Palo by drug cartels.
Of course, there are practitioners of Palo Mayombe who aren't violent, but it's still something I would not dabble in.

Then the problem is more about the people at its core and what they are willing to do, rather than the magic/objects in question?
